Job Seekers : Interview Tips
1. Present yourself professionally. First impressions are lasting impressions. Be conservative / corporate rather than "trendy" in your dress. 2. Always make eye contact starting with a smile and a firm handshake. 3. Remember, the interview with the recruitment agency is the first interview for a position. Don’t be under the illusion that an agency interview is not a "real" interview. 4. Be positive with suggestions as to why you are the best candidate for the position. 5. Speak respectfully of your previous employers. 6. Prepare for the interview – research the organisation (the internet is a great source). 7. Think of possible questions and appropriate responses. Communicate your answer and avoid "one word" responses. 8. Always be polite to the receptionist – you make an impression the moment you enter the clients’ premises. 9. Be early for your appointment but no more than 15 minutes. 10. It is suggested that you don’t discuss salary at initial interview unless the client initiates this topic. Other topics to avoid are asking about personal phone calls, for additional benefits and external commitments (however, should you have any concerns in relation to these topics, please discuss with your Consultant prior to interview.) 11. Turn your phone off before entering the premises. Never answer your phone when attending an interview. 12. If you are interested in the position say so with conviction. 13. Show enthusiasm and interest in the position and the company. 14. Thank the interviewer/employer for the interview/assignment and for their time, at the end of the meeting. 15. We recommend you dress in a smart pressed business suit when attending an interview. First impressions are lasting impressions. 16. We recommend women wear pantyhose/stockings (even during the warmer months) and gentlemen should always wear a tie. This presents a corporate image. 17. Ensure nails are clean and manicured. 18. We recommend you use deodorant to prevent body odour. 19. Understated jewellery is recommended. 20. We recommend you wear closed court shoes – not sandals or open toe shoes – these may be against the client’s work place health and safety. 21. Makeup is a personal choice, though it is recommended you do wear makeup. Keeping it natural looking is often the safest choice. 22. Well-groomed, clean hair is recommended at all times (not covering the face). 23. Ensure your breath is fresh. 24. No chewing gum. 25. No overpowering perfume or cologne. 26. Brush your jacket before the interview. 27. Remove sunglasses before entering premises (not to be rested on your head). 28. If you need to change your appointment do so through your consultant, giving as much time as possible to re-schedule. 29. Call the consultant after the interview with your feedback. 30. Lastly……Enjoy the interview. Good Luck!
